
In these clubs, students will comprehend medium-length talks and slightly modified texts on a wide variety of topics. Additionally, students will develop speaking skills, and develop writing skills that emphasize elements of simple paragraph development in different rhetorical styles, as well as develop introductory research skills in terms of project work.
To accomplish these goals, students will utilize a variety of critical thinking and metacognitive skills to interact within their social club. They will practice and utilize a variety of note taking techniques through listening and taking notes to talks as well as reading slightly modified texts. They will take part in small group or class discussions related to the club content and give short, unscripted presentations.
They will also engage in pronunciation activities at home and during clubs and appropriately utilize new vocabulary in all skills areas. Students will apply the process approach to writing paragraphs while integrating proper mechanics and formatting organized around a topic sentence with a controlling idea and a simple conclusion as well as improve fluency through weekly club goals. Finally, students will practice general research techniques in all skill areas as applicable
